Weiss Associates' Anja Verce Will Present at the Battelle 2012 Monterey Conference

Anja Verce, Environmental Engineer at Weiss Associates, will co-teach the short course,

“Characterizing and Understanding Remediation Processes In Situ: The In Situ Technological Toolbox” and will also present her poster“In Situ Reduction of Geogenic Hexavalent Chromium by Calcium Polysulfide and Assessment of Chromium Re-oxidation"at Battelle's Eighth International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds to be held in Monterey, CA on May 21-24, 2012.

Anja will be one of the instructors of the short course, which will outline techniques and technologies for generating data that can help decision-makers evaluate the potential efficacy of in situ remediation technologies. The course will outline challenges faced by in situ remediation technologies, and will also identify what kinds of performance data are necessary to properly evaluate in situ technologies. Furthermore, the course will examine tools that are currently available to address these needs, including bio-traps, in situ microcosm arrays, in situ microcosms, single-well push-pull tests, and natural gradient tracer tests. The course will conclude with a presentation of select case studies showcasing the above technologies and illustrating the type and quality of data they produce.

Anja's poster presentation, which is co-authored by Mary Stallard and Robert Devany of Weiss Associates, will discuss in situ reduction of geogenic hexavalent chromium by calcium polysulfide and will assess the potential for chromium re-oxidation at a site located in the western Sacramento Valley.
